Artist Keeps Obama Painting Under Wraps After Public Outrage

An American artist has cancelled the public unveiling of his controversial painting of US President Ba
rack Obama due to a massive public outcry.
Michael D’Antuono’s artwork The Truth depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the cross, with a crown of thorns atop his head, while behind him a dark veil is being lifted, or lowered, onto the Presidential Seal.
Publicity surrounding the planned unveiling of the painting at NYC’s Union Square Park on Friday to mark President Obama’s 100th day in office was picked up by newspapers across the United States, and photos of the artwork became one of the most emailed pictures on the internet.
However, D’Antuono says the unveiling has been cancelled, “in part on thousands of emails and phone calls; online blogs and other public commentary received in the first 48 hours following its release” last Friday.
The artist insists that the work was intended purely as a political piece.
“The religious reference was used metaphorically and not to insult anyone’s religious beliefs. If that is the effect that my art has had on anyone, I am truly sorry,” says D’Antuono.
Far different from our first President George Washington, who vehemently fought against having a Coronation. Washington was a simple man, who knew he was a man, and a very humble one at that.
In retrospect we look back at his presidency with awe, when we study how much he traveled on horesback from Mt. Vernon to New York and Philadelphia. We stand in awe of his humilty becasause 200 years later we see greatness. Folks who knew Washington, spoke well of him, and he was greatly respected among his men, for he would never ask a soldier to do something that he himself were not willing to do.
What a contrast between our current President and our First President. Washington constantley worried about how he would be depicted in portraits, and was reluctant to pose often.
Simply encouraging an artist to paint our current president in such a way, not only a blasphemony, but is very telling about the man that we have in the White House.

Good! It’s disgusting.
There’s only 2 ways to look at this in my opinion, and both ways portray hussein obama as the messiah mocking our savor Jesus Christ.
1st, is he opening the curtain to reveal himself as the savor of the seal of the United States, thus our nation?
2nd, is he closing the curtains on the greatest nation in the land, still while being portrayed as the most powerful entity we know?
In the artist eyes I go with #1, in reality we know it’s #2
I do feel better knowing this will not be accepted as appropriate art unlike the defending of the mother Mary drenched in urine and classified as art all while rejecting the same when a koran was used as art it was described as a hate crime.
SOME 135 YEARS AGO Abraham Lincoln said “The world has never had a good definition of the word liberty, and the American people, just now, are in much need of one.” When it comes to religious bigotry, the First Amendment, and the arts community, Lincoln couldn’t have been more prescient. Does an artist have the liberty to depict religious symbols and characters in a denigrating light? Yes. Does a city or state, with taxpayer money, have the obligation to stand athwart such bigotry and say “No!”? Absolutely.
