POCOMOKE CITY PICTURE PERFECT BEFORE DIS-EN-FRANCHISEMENT BY KING RUSSELL BLAKE
Pocomoke City was once a thriving community with decent jobs and businesses up and down Market Street.
I have heard some of the “old timers” talk about how the City government would actually serve the people with dignity.
Here is a picture showing there was a downtown when the people were in charge.

Too bad the picture above has been destroyed forever.
Please post your memories in the forums.
If we get into the way back machine we discover there was a thriving community with lots of activity.

Can you image living in Pocomoke City back in the good old days when your vote meant something?
What is it going to take to give the City back to the people?

The city gave the Discovery Center $25,000. to bury the electricity and phone wires to make it more historically accurate. Take a look in the picture above. I know that it is black and white but try and count how many wires and phone poles you see in the picture of downtown.
Electricity and phones were a new thing, that one would proudly display because of their affluence. If you want to be politically correct you should hang a few more wires outside, and maybe some bare light bulbs to add to the ambiance.
Get a grip, historical accuracy dictates lots of wires, not spending $25,000. to bury them because some architect said they didn’t look nice.
What did the architect say about the historical accuracy of the Heat Pumps on their salt treated decks along the outside of the building? If you wanna be historically accurate open the blocked windows put some cheese cloth over the windows to keep out some of the fly’s and get some fans on cloth insulated wires hangin from the ceiling, and grab yourself a personal fan.
Historically accurate in fleecing the city yet once again.

Here are a few pictures requested by a reader on the forums.
Pocomoke City, formerly known as Newtowne was once a thriving community with lots of businesses downtown, until King “Boss Hogg” RUss Blake was appointed unelected dictator of the City and decided bulldozing the historic buildings would be best for us peons.
Does anyone know the real reason that the name was changed from Newtowne to Pocomoke City?
After the civil war in 1877 Newtowne, MD had such a bad reputation because of the whorehouses, pool halls, thugs, thieves and gamblers that it was placed OFF LIMITS by the US Navy.
The thieves at Town Hall depended on the sailors for much of their income, ask any old timer what happened “When the Navy Left Wallops Island” to the town?
It was a negative economic impact on the community to be placed “OFF LIMITS” as being too rowdy & dangerous by the US Military.
1878 The Town was incorporated as The City of Pocomoke City.
The City of Pocomoke City was not on the “off limits” list of the Navy and all of the brothels, gambling halls, saloons and other places of illicit activity in the riverfront and downtown area could cater to their old customers.
It blows my mind that people deny their heritgage instead of embracing it. The Pocomoke City government is openly corrupt, they continue to run off businesses, while stealing millions from the taxpayers and the citizens continue to turn a blind eye.
It’s Pocomoke…
